Congratulations! You've made a sale on Doorstep Market, and it's time to fulfill the order. Here's everything you need to know about processing orders:
Introduction
Two important things to know before you get started.
1) We kindly ask that you fulfill the order (meaning ship or deliver it and mark it as shipped) within the Usually Ships In value you selected on your Product Listing.
2) We ask that you Sign in To the Maker Portal and Create a Shipment and Mark it as Shipped (with tracking data if available) to 'Complete' the order. If you don't take the order to this step, we will likely contact you to check in on the fulfillment status. For non-shipped orders, you still need to take the order to status "Shipped" or "Delivered" to complete the order.
New Orders
New orders will come in with a "Pending" status. To view an order, simply click the sign next to an order to expand it. If you aren't processing orders immediately, you may want to change the status of the order to Acknowledged.
Shipping an Order
When you're ready to ship an order, you can either change the status of the order to Ready to Ship and Create a Shipment. You can either create a label now or later, depending on your workflow.
Shipment versus Order Status
After you create a shipment, you'll need to access the shipment itself rather than the order to continue updating the shipment status. You can access the shipment under Shipments by clicking the Shipment ID.
Generating a Label
If you have USPS, FedEx, or UPS linked to your account, you can generate a label directly within the Maker Portal. You can, alternatively, use another service, in which case you can skip this section.
If you haven't yet created a shipment, you'll want to check the Generate Label box on the order status page. If you have created a shipment, you'll want to check the Generate Label box on the shipment status page.
Select a shipping method from the carrier you have selected and linked in your account settings.
By default, the weight and value of the package should default to the combined weight and value of the products in the order, according to the settings you applied to them. If these values are different, simply check the Use Custom label weight/value box and enter your own data. You'll also want to make sure that the Package Dimensions are entered correctly (in inches).
Either enter the shipping cost in the blank or simply check the Use Label Amount box to use the cost generated from the label as the shipping cost.
If you're updating the Order, click Create a Shipment. If updating a shipment, click Submit. Afterwards, a label will be generated automatically. If you run into any errors, first make sure your account is linked in your Settings. If that's correct and you're still having issues, reach out to customercare@doorstep.market for support.
Marking as Shipped
If you'd like to mark an order as shipped when you Create a Shipment, simply check the Mark as Shipped box before Creating a Shipment.
If a shipment has already been created, you'll need to update the shipment status as Shipped. Before you do, if you haven't generated a label from within Doorstep Market, make sure you've copied the tracking number into the Add Tracking ID field so that your customer can track their shipment. If you already marked the order as shipped when creating a shipment, you can still enter the tracking ID and save the shipment by clicking Submit.
A shipping notification is only sent to the customer when you add your tracking ID and mark the order as "Ready to Ship" or the shipment as "Shipped." If a tracking ID is not added, then the email notification is not triggered.
